Maritime Research & Recovery, LLC

MRR is a shipwreck exploration company whose purpose is to locate and recover cargos of significant monetary and historic value in an environmentally and archaeologically sensitive manner.

Why is Maritime Research & Recovery uniquely qualified to succeed?

MRRʼs founding members, Dan Porter, James Sinclair and Michael McDowell, are each highly respected leaders with extensive track records of success in the maritime exploration industry. Each possesses the background, imagination and drive to translate ideas into reality.

Dan Porter is a boat captain and shipwreck recovery operations director who has recovered multi-millions in sunken shipwreck treasures across two hemispheres. With three decades of experience in the industry, his unique qualifications, which combine old school work ethic with contemporary state-of-the-art acoustic and electronic sensing technical knowledge, distinguish him as one of the most proficient shipwreck project managers in the field today.

For more than 35 years, Michael McDowell has been a pioneering figure in a multitude of adventures, expeditions and businesses with the predominant themes of exploring and researching remote locations, investigating alternative energy sources and bringing great ideas to commercial success. Many “worldʼs first” expeditions have been executed by Mike and his companies.

James Sinclair is an internationally recognized marine archaeologist and conservator who began his professional career in 1980 with Mel Fisherʼs Nuestra Señora de Atocha project. Since then he has worked with numerous high profile shipwrecks, including Indonesiaʼs Flor de la Mar, Guamʼs Nuestra Señora del Pilar, Floridaʼs Santa Margarita, and others. In the year 2000, Sinclair became the first professional archaeologist to visit the wreck site of the RMS Titanic.

Subscribing to the view that a cohesive group is greater than the sum of its parts, these three experts and extremely successful explorers have joined forces to maximize the potential of their individual skills and talents.
